During the year 2010 the Diocese of Reno began the process of setting up corporations for all the Parishes in the Diocese. Some of these corporations included more than one Parish, as is the case with Eastern Nevada Catholic Parish Corporation, a Nevada nonprofit Corporation, which includes St. Joseph's Parish in Elko, Nevada, Sacred Heart Parish in Carlin, Nevada, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish in Wells, Nevada, St. Brendan's Catholic Parish in Eureka, Nevada and Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission in Jackpot, Nevada. All real and personal property of these parishes was transferred to the corporation they fall under, but is still held in trust by the Diocese. The corporations were set up in such a way as for the Diocese to still retain control over each of these corporations.
Board member names are filed each year with the State of Nevada and have no term limit. However, any board member may resign or be removed by the board of directors for appropriate reason, in which case a new member/s are selected and approved by the board to replace them.
The Board of Directors is required by law to hold an Annual Meeting every year. This meeting is called by the Director of the Board (Bishop of Reno Diocese) on a date and time he selects.
The purpose of the corporation is to review and approve the New Fiscal Year Budgets for each parish in the corporation, proposed projects costing $10,000 or more and monitor the overall financial and spiritual well being of each parish, as well as the long term outlook for each parish.
